Military pay is very low?

why is the military pay so low?i want to join the military to serve my nation and have the pride of serving my nation. But you can only go so far with pride we all need money too. I was checking the pay grades and an E1 earns 17k thats like on the poverty line. E9 makes like 86k about what my dad makes and he never went to high school. E1 earns less than a custodian. Which is kind of crazy considering E1's go to war and should be payed more than a janitor for defending us.

this has always bugged me, you know how you always hear stories about people who accidentally gety locked in storerooms or say have their hand trapped behind a pip and couldn't move for several days well most of these types of stories end with them being found by the janitor or something and them getting out... but why do you you never hear stories about people who've been trapped some where and died, and why do people on the news never specify that if not found dehydration is what found have killed them....I mean it is isn't?

My MIL has reached her limit with us?

I love my MIL as a person, but she is terrible with finances, and her kids find themselves picking up most of her bills because of her poor financial planning. Right now, her 4 other kids are really struggling, but my husband and I are doing ok (by ok, I mean we can afford to live comfortably with careful budgeting, but we only make under $40k a year combined, we cannot support his moms bad decisions). Anyways, last winter, the plastic sheet things (you know, those hard, corrugated green sheets) blew off her covered porch that her 4 dogs live under. Her dogs are 100% outside dogs, always have been, they are huge, dirty, smelly, and pretty much untrained. These are not small pampered lap pets, they are just fine out in the elements. Instead of saving up to pay a professional to fix it for years to come, she assumed I would pay for the materials to do a crappy patch job that will probably blow right off again because Im not a carpenter. The monsoons are coming, so she called me up the other day and told me she needed me to come fix it asap. She can't afford the $250 materials I'll need, so guess who gets to pay? I suggested building a small wood shelter for the dogs instead, which would be just as effective and cost only about $50. But no, they have to have a whole covered porch to stay out of the rain. These dogs will be perfectly fine out in the rain come on why should I have to help them out.. If she cant afford them then she should take them to the pound right?

I had a job as a janitor at a movie theater and one night I noticed the employees had left out some of the candy from concession. I took a bag of skittles and two weeks later, my boss called and said that they had caught it on tape and he fired me. Honestly, if they have been good students, responsible kids since 11 years old I think it is realistic. They will be set on working hard getting good jobs with good pay and have a cute little apartment. A weird Texas football tale...?

I was born in a small Texas town not to far from Texas Tech and though I didn't play football my senior year (coach had his favorites and I wasn't gonna ride the bench all year---plus, in all honesty, I wasn't 1st string material) I thought to do a little research on the history of football in our town. Turns out we had our 1st football team in 1918 (I saw the pictures in this 1918 yearbook the library had---leather bound and very worn). We are now in 2011 and we have NEVER IN 90 YEARS of playing football won a State championship. Not once. We've won district and GONE to state but never won state. Anyway I thought that was strange. How can my husband leave his unit?

My husband wants to leave his unit he got an article 15 before for cussing when he was accused of doing something he didn't do and physically threatened . He planned on leaving as soon as his contract is up to go to a new unit but he has to wait until his contract and the punishment from the first article 15 is up, also he is currently deployed so he thinks he can't leave mid deployment. When his unit found out he wanted to leave they have basically treated him like a janitor and when he went to bed one night after taking out the trash a leader who used to be his same rank but was promoted yelled at him about taking the trash out. when my husband said he already did the other person said there is trash in it again and my husband said that it is a trash can and it will keep getting trash in it, so he got another article 15. I told my husband he just needs to do what they say and don't say anything back and he said he will try but he's worried that they might kick him out of the army. He really just wants to go to a new unit. He's done everything they've asked him to do and his contract is almost up but it seems like they would rather get him out of the army then have him transfer, this is not the first person in his unit this has happened to. Honestly the leadership in this unit consists of very young guys and honestly I feel like they abuse their power just because they can. I really just want him to get to a new unit and start over new. I am a college graduate and I'm putting my life on hold for him so that he can get to a new unit and we can settle in there but I'm really worried. Why is my husband so distant from me? Or am I crazy?

We've been married for 10 yrs, no kids, both work and I'm going to college now. I'm 34 and he's 35. Maybe I'm going crazy but I feel like my husband doesn't care about me anymore. I do EVERYTHING. The only thing he does is : work, eat, shower, sleep, computer. That's all. We've been invited to go out with a couple of friends, he said he was too tired. He never wants to do anything. I don't think he has depression because at work he's very sociable, very polite with everyone. People tell me: "what a lucky girl you are to have him!" and I just nod. Sure! So he's one person outside of the house and another inside. So people think I'm crazy. He has absolutely no interest on me. Always with earphones on. If I go talk to him, he said "shh... wait for commercial" (and he's watching a 2 hour movie on Netflix, so there's no commercial). I feel so frustrated. Ten years is a long time to be married. I feel very unsatisfied. Our sex life is basically nonexistent. But I just don't want him for sex: I want to have a good companion for everything! I have a HP ENVY 17 and i was trying to put a movie onto my hdtv via HDMI cable, the picture was on the screen but no sound at all so i got my gaming chair's output cable and tried that to no avail but as soon as i pulled the gaming chair cable out the sound on my laptop went off and wouldn't come back on again :( i've tried going on control panel but just got confused and left it now I'm starting to get sick of not having sound, i have tried putting the cable back in the headphone socket but nothing happened, however after i did that i had earphone sound again :) but still its a pain having to get earphones all the time.... any help would be appreciated thanks :)

my 2 year old was screaming that his neck hurts and we found a big black tick in it. Took him to Urgent Care. He screamed all the way there and all through triage. We saw two Dr.s laughing and chatting in the desk area totally unfazed by the 2 year old that's been screaming his face off. We told the nurse at the desk that he conked out, and asked for something to clean the gallon of puke off me and my son. It took her about 20 minutes to find the janitor so that THE JANITOR could go get us some paper towels while we sat there covered in puke. They just laughed at the being-puked-on situation and said someone should be with you shortly. Another hour later we told them we were just going to go home and put him in bed since he didn't have a fever and seemed ok now, just extremely tired. I can't wait to see the $500 bill for the pleasure of wasting our time in the waiting room Oh, and the cost of 25 paper towels. I've had the MEElectronics M9 for a few months. Very happy with the sound quality and they seem very durable so far - metal shells, thick cable, beefy plug. From what I've read on head-fi.org, the M6 model is more suitable for sleeping than my M9 because it stays in place better and is also flush with the ear. Dropped ipod touch into water and now not responding to touch, HELP!?

Three days ago I was stupid enough to drop my ipod touch into a paddling pool of around 15 cm of water. I quickly got it out nd it was only submerged for around 1-2 seconds, i then took it out and it worked fine but soon the screen went very dark and now it has lost all functions in its touch screen, the home button and off button still work and the time seems to be changing but it will not unlock. It will also not let me play music even when controlled by the remote on the earphones. I have tryed drying it with a hairdryer but it just seems to get extremely hot and I don't know how long I should be doing this for, I've heard that it should be put in the oven but not sure for how long? I have tryed rice but only for a few hours then got frustrated that it hadn't worked, will it be worth trying again? Any suggestions will be very helpful, thanks!

How to get mustard stains out?

I am working with what I have, I rinsed with cold water, made a baking soda paste to scrub it with. And a second paste to let it soaked in for like 30 min. I've heard that you can use vinegar in combo with the baking soda. I only have apple vinegar, will it work the same? I am very upset that some idiot put a pate of hot dogs with ketchup and mustard in my chair a few seconds before I sat down. I always look before I sit to avoid things like this! My shorts are made out of a spandex/nylon type material, the ketchup came right out after the scrub. But the mustard lingered. So after I am finished letting the paste soak in should I rinse with the apple vinegar and follow with cold water?

Why is my major so competitive?

I'm a premed biochem major. I'm not too bright, but I am a hard worker. I didn't do so well in freshman year because I really didnt try. But after freshman year, I became more competitive. I realized that these guys are competing for the same seats as me for med school. So I started working hard. I have like the worst memory ever. I cannot remember anything even after I just studied it. That made biology a challenge. But I forced myself to learn the material. It took months of nonstop studying and hard work and I got A's and A- in my bio courses. Same for physics and orgo. Eventually my rate of learning increased. Yeah, I got a bunch of good grades, but I had to work 10 times as hard as other people to get the results. But now I noticed a transformation in my personality. I am reluctant to help people now. If I teach other people what I know, then I am hurting myself because they would a better grade than me and eventually steal my seat in medical school. I can't let that happen. So if I know information, I keep silent about it, unless someone prompts me for help. I once had a friendly personality, but now I became very aggresive and competitive. I mostly act like this to people inside my major, but sometimes even in everyday life. I have become sick and twisted, but I must do this if I am to get into med school. I gotta beat these guys and get higher numbers than them no matter what it takes. Maybe one day when I get into med school, I can be happy and wont have to fight with other people for a seat. Maybe some day, I can learn to coexist with these people. But right now, that is not the case, and I must fight my way to the top- so I can live a better future. Am I wrong for thinking like this? Help?! Computer sound problems?

i dont have speakers for my computer , but i use earphones , sometimes when i started my computer , the sound wouldnt work & id have to restart it & it worked again , but for like a week now , it wont work , & there is usually a speaker symbol at the bottom right hand corner to adjust the volume & it isnt there anymore , i went to my control panel & went to the sounds , speech & audio devices & it wont let me click on any settings because it says "No audio devices" , how can i fix this ? btw i have a dell computer .

Brand New earphones won't work!?

My parents JUST bought me new earphones because I HATE apple earphones. So yesterday I tried plugging the earphones into my computer's tower to listen to something. But it didn't work. I figured is was because I had speakers plugged into the computer, but I didn't feel like unplugging them to see if the earphones would work. But when I plugged them into my ipod, they wouldn't work! I didn't blow them out because I don't listen to my music really loud. They are brand new, so I don't know why they aren't working anymore. Did I mess up a setting on my ipod?
