What does it take to get custody?

Your sister can indicate that she would prefer for you to get custody over her mother. Grandparents are often awarded custody, however. Here is a law article on grandparent custody and visitation rights: a href="http://www.slaterkennon.com/articles/grandparents-child-custody/" rel="nofollow"http://www.slaterkennon.com/articles/gra…/a But when both parents lose custody, the main thing to remember is they will usually seek a blood relative. So, you would fit in that category. It would be a matter of convincing the court that you would be a better provider for the child. In the end, that is the number one issue in play.
