I have a headset and I only want to use the mic?

I have a headset (not really sure what make) but I want to use only the mic on it because the muffs for the ears are gone and it's extremely uncomfortable so I'd rather if I could just use the mic and my laptops speakers because no earphones will work when I plug them into the earphone jack. Is this possible?
