Bought Apple earphones for my laptop, they sound like im in a hall?

Been using my i-pod earphones for ages but they broke, so just bought a new set of apple ones and its very loud but sounds like im sitting in a big hall, like an echo! Any idea's? They were 25 pound too, not exactly cheap!
